Europe is expected to be hit by a heat wave in the coming days with day temperature to reach up to 40 degrees Celsius in some areas, the Austrian Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) said on Wednesday.Speaking to the Austria Press Agency, the ZAMG said a high-pressure area is currently developing over Europe, that is either blocking low-pressure areas primarily gathering from the Atlantic, or diverting them into northern Europe.

It thus expects domestic temperature to reach up to 35 degrees by the weekend, with a similar prognosis for Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovakia.

Mediterranean regions are expected to have temperature ranging from 30 to 35 degrees, while interior regions of Spain are expected to be hit by heat wave over 40 degrees.

The lower half of France and the south of Germany are also expected to experience high temperature ranging from 35 to 40 degrees.

The north of Great Britain as well as the majority of Scandinavia will be spared the worst of the heat, the ZAMG said, with temperature ranging from 20 to 26 degrees in the coming days.

The institute said it expects the forecast conditions for the European continent to remain until early next week.
