A 23-year-old woman was electrocuted when she inserted her debit card into an ATM in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, local media reported Tuesday.

The victim surnamed Liu suffered injuries to her fingers after she attempted to input her PIN number at the China Everbright Bank machine at 5 pm on Sunday.

Liu said she screamed and flung her hands in the air immediately after feeling a strong current of electricity pass through her body.

The shock left her bleeding and with two split fingernails.

Liu said she went to a nearby medical clinic for treatment and that the ATM had swallowed her debit card.

A bank official said tests showed that at the time a shocking 200 volts of electricity was running through the machine.

The cause of the malfunction has yet to be determined.

The official has since apologized to Liu. The ATM machine has since been closed.
