The Philippine government assured Sunday the United Nations of its determination to complete the rehabilitation works in the areas affected by super typhoon Haiyan (locally named as Yolanda) almost two years ago.

Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said that the National Housing Authority, the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Department of Public Works and Highways together with the concerned local government units are working collectively in responding to the needs of the typhoon victims.

He said that in the proposed P3-trillion budget for next year, the government has earmarked additional fund for the rehabilitation efforts.

Coloma was responding to Chaloka Beyani, UN special rapporteur on the human rights of internally displaced persons who reported that the Philippines has not done enough rebuilding after Haiyan devastated much of the eastern Visayas region in central Philippines.

Haiyan, which struck most parts of the country in December 2013, leaving over 6,300 people dead and about 1,700 others missing and displacing millions of Filipinos.
