One Singaporean was among those killed in a bombing in central Bangkok on Monday, and seven other Singaporeans were injured, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said on Tuesday.

"We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family for their loss." said MFA in a statement. "We are deeply saddened by this development."

The ministry said Chua Siew San, Singapore's Ambassador to Thailand, visited the injured Singaporeans at the various local hospitals earlier this morning. All were receiving medical attention, while those with light injuries had been discharged.

The explosion, which rocked Erawan Shrine, a popular tourist destination in downtown Bangkok, has left 20 people dead and more than 100 others injured.

Singapore reiterated its strong condemnation of this indiscriminate act of violence. Describing the bombing in Bangkok as "heinous attack," Minister for Foreign Affairs K. Shanmugam said "nothing can justify the killing of innocent civilians."

The Thai authorities have launched investigations and those responsible for this act must be brought to justice, he added.

Singapore's Embassy in Thailand will continue to provide consular support for the injured Singaporeans and their next-of- kin.
