The Malaysian government said Tuesday that two more of its citizens were killed in what Prime Minister Najib Razak called a "heinous act" in Bangkok, when a powerful blast rocked the downtown district of the Thai capital.

Malaysia's Foreign Ministry confirmed the death of other two Malaysians in the deadly bombing, raising the number of Malaysian casualties to four. Three others were injured.

Local media reported the four Malaysians killed were from the same family.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to convey our deepest condolences and sympathy to the victims and their families involved in the incident," the ministry said.

Prime Minister Najib said his country "condemns the heinous act on innocent civilians in Bangkok which claimed lives of two Malaysians and others,"

"My thoughts and prayers are with their families," he said on his Twitter account.

Najib said his Thai counterpart Prayut Chan-o-cha had assured him in a phone conversation that Thai authorities shall ensure that the perpetrators be punished.

More than 20 people were killed in the blast that rocked Erawan Shrine, a popular tourist destination in downtown Bangkok, Monday night. A total of 125 people were injured in the blast.
