Ogier consolidates lead

World champion Sebastien Ogier in a Volkswagen Polo won the Rally of Germany on Sunday to consolidate his lead in this year standings.

The 31-year-old Frenchman comfortably took first place ahead of teammates Jari-Matti Latvala of Finland and Andreas Mikkelsen of Norway.

It was the 30th world championship rally win of his career and the sixth victory out of nine races this season for the sport's dominant driver since the retirement of countryman Sebastien Loeb.

Ogier dominated the race throughout winning 14 out of the 21 special stages to finish 23 seconds clear of Latvala and nearly two minutes ahead of Mikkelsen.

The next stop is Australia on September 10-13.
