Looking to raise public awareness about marine conservation, the latest TED x Beijing event, Oceans: Innovation & Conservation, was hosted by Monaco and Parkview Arts Action at the Salone Monaco convention center in Beijing on Tuesday.

In addition to a photo exhibition, the salon consisted of a series of lectures by H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, May Mei from WildAid China, National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Dr. Enric Sala and environmentalist Ma Jun.

Prince Albert II opened the TED x Beijing event by introducing the efforts his foundation has made to protect the world's oceans.

"The oceans are more than ever before at the heart of our common future. Although they are subject to substantial threats, they also offer infinite solutions and unparalleled opportunities, whether of an ecological or economic nature, energy or food related," he said.

Following the prince, May shared her experiences working with Chinese celebrities and using their fame to reach a broader audience.

More than a dozen photographers have contributed works to the photography exhibition at the Salone Monaco. Featuring photos of small creatures living peacefully side by side with giant sharks, the exhibition gives viewers a glimpse into the world that exists beneath the ocean's surface.
