Roundup: Hong Kong stocks close 0.45 pct lower

Hong Kong stocks ended lower on Friday with the benchmark Hang Seng index falling 0.45 percent, or 94.33 points to end at 20,840.61 points. Turnover totaled 69.33 billion HK dollars (about 8.91 billion US dollars).

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index fell 131.73 points or 1. 42 percent, to close at 9,169.59.

Three sub-indices lost ground, with the Finance sub-index falling the most by 0.89 percent, followed by the Properties 0.30 percent and the Commerce and Industry 0.14 percent. The Utility rose 0.89 percent.

Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index closed flat at 59.40 HK dollars, while its local unit Hang Seng Bank closed up 1.5 percent to 137.50 HK dollars. Local bourse operator HKEX went down 0.8 percent at 175. 90 HK dollars.

Local developers Hang Lung Properties fell 0.8 percent to 17.42 HK dollars. Henderson Land, another major developer in Hong Kong closed flat at 46.25 HK dollars, and Cheung Kong Holding, a powerful HK-based developer controlled by billionaire Li Ka-shing, decreased 0.6 percent to 102.00 HK dollars.

As for mainland-based financial stocks, China Construction Bank, the country's second largest bank which accounts for the third largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, decreased 2.3 percent to 5.14 HK dollars. ICBC, the world's largest bank by market value, went down 0.9 percent to 4.40 HK dollars. Bank of China sank 1.2 percent to 3.32 HK dollars.

PetroChina, the country's largest oil and gas producer, slid 3. 6 percent to 5.81 HK dollars. (1 US dollar equals 7.761 HK dollars)
