As the first China-UK Culture Exchange Year, 2015 has seen a number of British cultural exhibitions come to China. On Sunday, George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer, led a British cultural and trade delegation to the National Theatre of China (NTC) to attend the Chinese version of War Horse, a classic symbol of British culture.

Also attending a performance of Richard III, which the NTC began performing in 2012, Osborne stated that he supported continued cooperation between the NTC and The National Theatre in the UK to bring classic British stage plays to audiences in China.

In July, the NTC's version of Richard III opened the Chinese culture season in the UK as part of the China-UK Culture Exchange Year. During the London Olympic Games in 2012, the show also appeared at Shakespeare's Globe.

The premiere of War Horse on September 4 marked the first time the NTC and the UK's National Theatre have cooperated together.

According to Zhou Yuyuan, NTC president and chief producer of the Chinese version of War Horse, plans for more comprehensive and detailed cooperation between theaters in the two countries are in the works.
