One foreign soldier of the NATO-led Resolute Support mission has been killed following an attack near Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan's eastern province of Parwan, the coalition said in a statement Wednesday.

"We can confirm a Resolute Support service member died as a result of an enemy attack in the vicinity of Bagram Airfield, Sept. 22," the NATO-led RS said in the statement.

Bagram, lying some 50 km north of Afghan capital of Kabul, is the main military base of US and NATO troops in the country.

The statement gave neither the nationality of the victim nor the details about the incident under the RS policy, only saying " it is RS Policy to defer casualty identification procedures to the relevant national authorities."

The Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since mid-April when the militant group launched annual rebel offensive against security forces.

A total of nine US and NATO soldiers have lost their lives in Afghanistan since Jan. 1 this year.
