Typhoon Dujuan, the 21st typhoon of this year, made landfall in east China's Fujian Province on Tuesday morning.

The storm hit the coastal city of Putian at around 8:50 a.m., packing winds of up to 33 meters per second, said the Fujian Meteorological Service.

It moved northwestward at a weakening speed of 20 km per hour. It is forecast to reach Jiangxi Province Tuesday night, according to the National Meteorological Center.

Fujian issued a level one emergency response for Dujuan early Tuesday morning.

On Monday, all 32,090 fishing boats offshore in the province returned to harbor and around 160,000 people returned to shore, according to the provincial flood control office.

Between 8 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. Tuesday, heavy rains swept Fujian with maximum precipitation of 162 mm in Minhou County of Fuzhou, the provincial capital, the office said.

The typhoon has also brought gales, torrential rain and high waves to neighboring Zhejiang Province. Scenic spots in seven districts and counties of Wenzhou City have been temporarily closed.
