Jiang Jiemin, former head of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, was sentenced to 16 years in prison in central China's Hubei Province for bribery, possessing a large number of assets from unidentified sources and abuse of power.

In the meanwhile, Li Chuncheng, former deputy Party secretary of Sichuan Province, was sentenced on Monday in a different court to 13 years of jail time for bribery and abuse of power.

Both Jiang and Li said they accepted the verdict and would not appeal. Their personal assets were confiscated. Jiang's confiscated assets are worth 1 million yuan ($160,000), the Xinhua News Agency reported on Monday.

The judgments were handed down two weeks ahead of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 18th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which will be held from October 26 to 29.

Both Jiang and Li were accused of illegally assisting other people in seeking profits under Zhou Yongkang's instruction and causing serious losses to public property, according to previous media reports.

Li worked under Zhou and was promoted to Chengdu mayor when Zhou served as the Party chief of Sichuan Province from 1999 to 2002. Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan.

Zhou, a former member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, was sentenced in June to life imprisonment for accepting bribes, abuse of power and deliberately disclosing State secrets. He is the highest-level official to be convicted in the republic's history.
