China's administrative organs were urged to perform their duties in response to lawsuits filed by the public at a meeting on Tuesday.

The right of the public to sue the government is important in supervision and protecting public interest, said a statement issued at the 17th meeting of the Central Leading Group for Deepening Overall Reform presided over by President Xi Jinping.

According to the statement, administrative organs should support people's courts in accepting and hearing such cases, appear in court to respond to lawsuits, cooperate with investigations, and guarantee the rights of citizens, enterprises and organizations to sue.

Administrative organs should also improve internal organization and improve supervision over lawsuit responses.

At the meeting, Xi encouraged local governments to be bold in exploring innovative reforms and adapting the reform plans to reality.

The meeting was also attended by Premier Li Keqiang and senior leader Liu Yunshan.

The statement also urged to improve the mechanism to solve local disputes to protect public legitimate rights and promote social justice, by sticking to the leadership by Party committees, government management and making all-round efforts.

It called on to prevent disputes in policy-making, administrative law enforcement and judicial litigation, and to solve disputes in line with laws and regulations.

In local reform and innovation, cadres should listen to the public's advice and draw lessons from problems, said the statement.

Local reform and innovation should also stipulate supporting policies and establish a power-responsibility system to meet local needs, it said.
