The opening ceremony of a photo exhibition commemorating the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people's resistance against Japanese aggression and the world Anti-Fascist war was held in Berlin on Tuesday with a wide visitor participation from both Germany and China.

This exhibition themed "Great Victory, Historic Contribution". Over 90 original and authentic photos brought the historical moments between 1931 and 1945 back to life.

Li Xiaosi, Chinese envoy to Germany, addressed the opening ceremony and said that looking back through history is by no means nursing hatred but appealing for peace that all the people desire and hold fast to.

Li said we should never allow historical tragedies to repeat.

He hoped that this exhibition would help to shed more light on the history of the Second Word War, especially on China's part, and mutual understanding between both countries should be further enhanced in order to contribute more to the world peace.

At this event, lots of guests were attracted by the old photos. A Berliner citizen Egon Schueler is a fan of China's culture. He told Xinhua that people in Europe have relatively limited knowledge about Asian battlefield during the Second World War in comparison with the knowledge of European history.

This photo exhibition offered a good chance for him to get better informed of China's history during the war of resistance.

He said that the older as well as the younger generation living in the modern world both should show due respect for history and always bear the history in mind.

This exhibition is hosted by the Information Office of the State Council and the Chinese Embassy in Germany, and organized by China Culture Center in Berlin. The event will be held until Oct. 29.
