A South Korean-designed computer program won the 1st Mylin Valley World Computer Weiqi Tournament on Sunday in Beijing.
Designed by Lim Jaebum, Dol Baram defeated Japanese programmer Hideki Kato's Zen in the final.
Programmers from nine countries and regions, including China, the US, South Korea and France, competed in the tournament, which was held from November 11 to 15.
In the Computer vs Human matchup, Dol Baram lost to Chinese Weiqi guru Lian Xiao in the two games with four and five handicap stones, and narrowly won the game with six handicap stones. Lian said that there's still a long way to go before computer programs can beat humans.
