China's Ministry of Public Security (MPS) will strengthen the regulation of entertainment venues to prevent the rebound of crimes related to gambling and prostitution, according to a statement posted on the ministry's website on Wednesday.

Security checks will be enhanced in recreational venues, including music and dance clubs, bathhouses and massage parlors, as well as gaming centers. Venues found to be involved in gambling or prostitution will be placed on a "black list," the statement said.

Regional law enforcement officials who harbor suspects involved with gambling or prostitution or who tip off suspects about imminent police inspections will be sacked and investigated for criminal liability.
