What is black and white and red all over? The latest cafeteria special at one Chongqing university, which features the likeness of China's signature animal smothered in red chili sauce.

The Internet is collectively sharing its distaste for the dish of stir-fried greens and what appears in photos to be slices of black and white panda-shaped dough.

Cooked up at the Chongqing University of Arts and Sciences (CUAS), the dish proved a recipe for heated discussions on social media, media reported Saturday.

Many netizens groaned and lumped the recipe among the growing number of cafeteria culinary failures floating around the Chinese Web.

Hashtagged "horrible canteen cooking," photos of food served at university canteens range from creative combinations such as "moon cakes and fruit" to simply off-putting fried bananas.

CUAS is not alone in producing endangered-animal themed dishes. At the nearby Chongqing Technology and Business University, Christmas Eve was marked with a meal of penguin-shaped chicken breasts and vegetables, news portal qianzhan.com reported.
