Norway's position on the one-China policy has not changed, a spokesperson of the country's foreign ministry told the Global Times on Wednesday after the country's immigration authority reportedly said "Norway recognize Taiwan as a nation" in a letter to a Taiwan student.

"The position of the Norway is clear: there is no change in Norway's one-China policy which has been the same since the 1970s," Frode Overland Andersen, head of Communications and spokesperson of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told the Global Times Wednesday.

"We will raise the issue of the letter with the Norwegian Immigration authorities," added him.

Norwegian immigration authorities allegedly said that their country recognizes Taiwan as a nation in a letter to a student in Taiwan, after the student wrote to change his citizenship from "China" to "Taiwan," SETN.com, a Taiwan-based news portal, reported on Wednesday.

The Taiwanese student appealed to the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI), stressing that his nationality should not be China, but Taiwan.

"Norway recognizes Taiwan as a nation. However, the passport submitted with the application was issued by China which identifies you as a citizen," according to a screenshot of the UDI's alleged response.

The report of SETN.com cannot be confirmed so far.
