China Railway Co announced Wednesday it will lower the freight rate for coal by 0.1 yuan ($0.02) per ton per kilometer, a move intended to support the reform of domestic coal companies.

The cut is forecast to save about 10 billion yuan in logistics fees for domestic coal companies within a year, the railway company said in a statement sent to the Global Times on Wednesday.

The lower rate will take effect Thursday, the company said.
