Battle Declaration, a promotional video for People's Liberation Army (PLA) recruitment has become an Internet hit soon after its release. Overseas media outlets have put it under scrutiny as well.

Several lines from the lyrics, such as "Let's go to war, let's fight to win," coupled with rap beats were widely applauded by the Chinese public, however, it caused much concern in the Western press.

The video, full of modern elements, showcases a series of sophisticated weaponry, including aircraft carriers, missiles, fighter jets and advanced tanks. It aims to inspire patriotism in Chinese young people. Comments from the overseas media ranged from jeers to admiration.

The PLA is now more open about its readiness to fight a war. At the beginning of the video, it is claimed that "War can break out any time, are you ready?" The openness will win more respect for the Chinese military.

Chinese culture stresses keeping a low profile, a philosophy in the past which has influenced the way the Chinese military cultivated its image. People are even misled into believing that the PLA's ethos of serving the people means actions such as assisting seniors to cross the street. In fact, the fundamental way for the PLA to serve the country and the people is to enhance combat capability, prevent war and safeguard the Chinese people's right to enjoy peace.

Courage is essential to any soldier, and it is not at odds with rationality and loyalty. It is also an important characteristic that the nation cannot miss. It secures the uninterrupted continuation of Chinese civilization throughout history.

Soldiers inherit a heroic spirit. Even though it is peace time, we don't have to feel embarrassed by the PLA chanting a battle hymn.

In today's world, most of the standards are written by the West. If our way is not in accordance with that of the US, we may doubt ourself.

China's civilization dates back 5,000 years. One-fifth of the world's population is Chinese.

The nation is supposed to be one of the originators of the rules of human behavior. Such confidence should not be repressed or replaced by worship of the West.

China must develop a military that will awe all the other forces in the world. This is one of the essential parts of Chinese policy. The acts toward that goal can withstand the test of history.

The outside world will find fault, but we should not give up our efforts to establish such an army to comfort others.

Guts and courage are valuable spiritual resources for our society. Cherishing and encouraging this spirit will safeguard China's future.
