Last week, the TwoCents article "Single foreign females in China don't have it easy," written by guest freelancer Stephanie Naday, stirred a fair amount of controversy online. Over the weekend, parties claiming to be associated with Naday accused the Global Times of "faking" the article, "a complete and total fabrication using her name." This allegation is categorically untrue.
Several weeks ago, Naday, who has written three articles for GT, pitched the topic to our Metro Shanghai editors, which was approved. Naday submitted her draft, which was routinely copy-edited for content, style and errors. We emailed the edited draft for Naday's approval, which she authorized.
After the article was published, Naday received some negative comments and messages from netizens. Naday was wrongly accused by some for the article which we believe wasn't intended to offend or discriminate against any particular group.
The Global Times strictly follows a standard multilevel editing process for all in-house reporters and guest contributors. All edited drafts are approved by the authors prior to publication. We reserve the right to take legal action against any individual or organization who purposely attempts to tarnish our reputation by claiming otherwise.
