The 2016 Yao Foundation Hope School's basketball season commenced with an official launch in Beijing on May 11. Initiated in 2012 by the Yao Foundation, the activity will help underprivileged children realize their basketball dreams.

The Yao Foundation was established by well-known basketball player Yao Ming to support reconstruction work after an earthquake in Wenchuan, Sichuan Province in 2008.

The Yao Foundation is a specialized fund under the protection of the China Youth Development Foundation and focuses on helping to provide better education, build self-esteem and improve the health of children in China.

This year is domestic sports giant Peak Sport's fifth year contributing to the activity. By providing free shoes, uniforms, and sporting equipment, Peak has shown its dedication to building and maintaining corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities involving children in poor areas.

At the launch ceremony, Yao shared his opinion of the previous basketball seasons and encouraged the young participants to have dreams and to pursue them.

The CEO of Peak Sport Xu Zhihua also gave a speech in which he spoke of Peak's commitment to social interest activities such as basketball.

"In the future, Peak will continue to pour more efforts into social interest programs in a way to implement CSR and let the children know that someone cares about them," said Xu.

"We will make greater efforts to contribute to the development of education, the sports industry and social work in China," he said.

In addition to offering free basketball equipment to primary and high school students in poor areas, Peak will also create opportunities for them to meet with some of the famous NBA players, who signed a cooperative contract with Peak, such as Tony Parker and Dwight Howard.
