Nearly 800 people gathered at Wellington College International Shanghai recently to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Stepping Stones, a local charitable organization that endeavors to improve the education of disadvantaged children in China.

The event raised 90,000 yuan ($13,732), all of which will be used to support Stepping Stones' educational efforts. As well as students and teachers from partner schools, volunteers, board members, sponsors and their families attended the party.

Wellington College's Jazz Band opened the party, followed by an impressive dance performance from 35 migrant children of Wanliao School. A local Bollywood dance troupe and comic act Clowns without Borders rounded out the entertainment. Food, drinks and treats from various countries as well as a generous raffle and silent auction from donors kept up the excitement throughout the event.

The decaversary was a tribute to Stepping Stones' first decade in China, and also a fitting way to thank local and foreign friends who have supported their undertakings. Stepping Stones is a not-for-profit charitable organization registered in Hong Kong and Shanghai, founded in 2005 by Corinne Richeux Hua.

Stepping Stones recruits 350 expatriate and Chinese volunteers to teach 4,500 students in 30 migrant schools and community centers throughout Shanghai. They also bring volunteer English teachers to rural schools outside Shanghai on a regular basis.
