The downtown area of Hangzhou is undergoing major renovations in preparation for the upcoming G20 summit.

The renovations will be completed by the end of June.

Sixinfang, located in Hangzhou's Shangcheng district, is a typical example of architecture from the Minguo period (1912–49). With renovation of the district nearing completion, it is one of the most revamped streets in all of Hangzhou. Since November of 2015, 57 illegal structures and 132 broken canopies and chimneys have been demolished.

13-year-old primary student Chen Yanda explains Sixinfang’s history to visitors. He currently works as a volunteer interpreter in Sixinfang.

78-year-old Sixinfang resident Xu Guanghua is a volunteer in nearby Shangcheng district. He is responsible for encouraging other residents to sort their garbage and keep their eyes peeled for potential safety hazards around the neighborhood.

A 54-year-old woman surnamed Zhou shows off the materials from her English language class. Shangcheng district has organized for retirees to study basic English in preparation for the upcoming G20 summit. Each class lasts a total of 45 minutes.

Many from the class are now able to greet each other in simple English.
