A gang leader in North China's Shanxi Province was locked up again just three days after being released from jail after a high-profile welcome party to celebrate his release, the authorities announced.

Security authorities in Jincheng said in a meeting on Wednesday that police arrested Cheng Youzhe and nine other suspects for disturbing social order on Thursday.

More than 100 people gathered in front of Jincheng Prison and set off firecrackers to celebrate Cheng's return to freedom on May 23 and then held a banquet at a local restaurant.

Footage of the incident posted online by Net users showed that Cheng's fellow gang members, clad in all black, formed two lines outside the prison and Cheng walked between them wearing all white after his release.

Cheng, 52,  was imprisoned for the third time in his life in 2009 for engaging in gambling and breaking other laws during a crackdown on gangs activity in the city. He was put behind bars for robbery and gambling in 1984 and 2004, news site, cnr.com reported.

The party for Cheng's release drew attention not only from the public but also from the authorities after pictures and video footage of the shindig spread on social media.

The Jincheng Public Security Bureau vowed at a Wednesday meeting that they would investigate the case and crack down on the "rampant arrogance" of the criminals.
