Pakistan celebrated 65 years of diplomatic relations with China with a charity fair over the weekend at its embassy in Beijing.

Qian Wei, wife of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, attended the event and cut the ribbon to open the Charity Bazaar.

"The two countries enjoy a unique iron-brother friendship, and for the past 65 years, the people of the two countries have worked together to establish an all-weather strategic cooperative partnership," said Qian, who also conveyed Wang's congratulations and thanks to the Pakistan Embassy.

Pakistani Ambassador to China Masood Khalid said that the event was to "make a humble contribution for the care of the elderly" by supporting the Longzhen Service Center - Jingsong Home for Elderly Care, an organization that aims to help the elderly of Beijing.

Items from Pakistani handcraft to designer ware were sold at the fair, where colorful stalls and musical performances showcased Pakistan's culture, traditions, garments, cuisine and various products.

During the event, the Pakistan Embassy also received donations from several Chinese companies, including ZTE, that will go to the elderly care organization, Asif-ur-Rehman Khan, a Pakistani Embassy counselor, told the Global Times, without disclosing the specific amount.

China and Pakistan have enjoyed close relations since 1951. In 1965, they signed the Agreement on Culture Cooperation; in 1975, the Karakoram Highway, which links mountainous northern Pakistan with western China, officially opened; and in 2005, they signed the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Good Neighborly Relations.

In 2013 when the landmark China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, which  connects Xinjiang in China and Gwadar Sea-port in Pakistan, was signed by both countries, the bilateral relationships were heightened to all-weather partnership.
