As the trend towards international coproductions continues to grow in the Chinese film industry, script translation and film dubbing are becoming increasingly important fields.

Looking to explore the numerous possibilities international cooperation can bring these fields, the 2016 Sino-Foreign Audiovisual Translation and Dubbing Cooperation Workshop & Symposium kicked off in Beijing on Monday.

An integral part of the "Chinese Contemporary Works' Translation Project" and the 19th Shanghai International Film Festival, the event is jointly hosted by the Ministry of Culture and the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television.

Sixty heads of film festivals, organizations and film and TV dubbing experts from more than 30 countries and regions are attending the event, which will run until June 15.

"There are many differences in the cultural habits, language traits, artistic styles and market demands across the world, but our inner needs and cultural aspirations are similar," Zhu Qi, a deputy director-general of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations at the Ministry of Culture, said in a speech during the event's opening ceremony.

"Only by deepening communication can we increase understanding and embrace a future of mutual appreciation of each other's aesthetics," Zhu continued.

During the course of the symposium, the 60 delegates will visit nearly 20 organizations in Beijing and Shanghai such as the China Film Archive.
