Sixty-year old film director Johnnie To sat down with students at Peking University Hall to discuss his latest film Three on Sunday.

Commemorating the 20th anniversary of To's film studio Milkyway, Three has been seen as a return to the gangster genre that made him famous.

According to a behind-the-scenes documentary that was shown at the event, the film has posed new challenges, such as having to direct without a script and filming slow-motion shots.

To confirmed that he tends to rely less on scripts in order to adapt to various unexpected circumstances that pop up during filming. He said that he hoped this would lead to audiences experiencing the same feelings of uncertainty that he felt during the shoot.

Looking back on his career, the director stressed the importance of creating original films. Despite having made several commercial films, To stressed that he has always insisted on creating films he could call his own.
