Berliner Theatertreffen festival makes Beijing debut

With the premier of German play Common Command, the Berliner Theatertreffen debuted in Beijing at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA)on Tuesday.

One of the most important and largest theater festivals in German-speaking Europe, the Berliner Theatertreffen ranks up there in reputation with the Festival d'Avignon in France and the UK's Edinburgh International Festival.

Each year, the Theatertreffen jury committee selects 10 "noteworthy" theater productions from nearly 400 plays from German-speaking regions such as Germany, Austria and Switzerland to appear at Theatertreffen in Berlin.

Another performance of Common Command is scheduled for Wednesday night.

Following Common Command, John Gabriel Borkman and Waiting for Godot are also scheduled to be performed at the NCPA.

Theatertreffen's performances are scheduled to end on July 9.

Theatertreffen's performances in China is one of three sections belonging to the 2016 NCPA International Theatre Festival currently being held from June 10 to September 24.
