Companies across the world are looking to grow in new markets and many (48 percent) describe themselves as data driven, said a survey released by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) on Sunday at the Summer Davos in North China's Tianjin.

PwC officially released its 2016 Big Decision Survey at the annual world economic forum. The document is focused on how enterprises around the world are limiting risk and leveraging data to make the big decisions that will give them a competitive edge.

The survey involved more than 2,100 company decision-makers and leaders, with insights across 15 industries such as healthcare, banking and capital markets, communications, energy and mining.

"Data can be an extremely underutilized tool, and a company's capability to access the right data, at the right time, and then look at it through the right lens, can make or break a bottom line," Dan DiFilippo, PwC's global and US data and analytics leader, told a briefing at the forum.
