A cultural performance to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan was held at the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing on Tuesday evening. Shahbaz Sharif, chief minister of Pakistan's Punjab Province, and well-known cultural figures from both countries attended the event.

Organized by the Embassy of Pakistan in Beijing and sponsored by the China Three Gorges Corporation and China Cultural Heritage Foundation, the performance featured songs and dances that represented the different cultures in several Pakistani provinces.

Many of the performances featured groups of dancers dressed in bright-colored traditional Pakistani clothing as they swirled and moved to the drumbeats and rhythms of traditional local instruments. Apart from the Pakistani-style performances, a Chinese dance that made use of long and colorful ribbons added a taste of ancient China to the stage.

Pakistani artists also showed their interest in Chinese local culture by performing well-known Chinese songs such as the theme song for the 2008 Beijing Olympic opening ceremony "You and Me," as well as A Love Song from Kangding in Chinese, winning a burst of applause from audience.
