A Dutch man who spent 10 days in a Chinese airport waiting to be picked up by a woman he had met on the Internet was instead picked up by airport security.

His female friend claimed to be busy getting plastic surgery and didn't think he was coming.

Alexander Pieter Cirk, 41, received medical treatment after his long, sleep-deprived stay at Changsha Huanghua International Airport.

Cirk told airport authorities he was waiting for the woman, surnamed Zhang, who he met on social media two months earlier.

"I had to stay at the airport because I had no money," Cirk told a reporter.

In the meantime, Zhang was 900 kilometers away in Zhengzhou, Henan Province having plastic surgery done, according to a report on Friday.

Zhang said that Cirk had showed her his flight ticket to China but she thought it was a "joke."

Cirk, who suffers from diabetes, was treated for exhaustion at Changsha 163 Hospital, doctors told Hunan ETV on Saturday.
