A senior minister of Indian-controlled Kashmir Tuesday escaped a bid on his life after two petrol bombs were hurled at his house in state capital Srinagar.

Eduction Minister Naeem Akhtar said that he escaped unhurt as he stays in his official residence at Gupkar Road and the house that was attacked is his private bunglaw in Parray Pora area of Srinagar.

"The house is unguarded and no one was present there when the bomb attack took place in the wee hours of the day. One bomb fell inside the compound. The fire was doused by neighbours," he said.

Indian-controlled Kashmir has been on the boil since the killing of 22-year-old Burhan Wani, the terror outfit Hizbul-Mujahideen's poster boy for new militancy in the state, on July 8.

Wani was gunned down by Indian security forces during an encounter, which triggered violence across the state and resulted in the deaths of over 50 people since.
