Although China has officially entered liqiu (the beginning of autumn) on the Chinese lunar calendar, the merciless summer heat and humidity that have suffocated Shanghai over the past two months show no signs of abating.

According to the Central Weather Bureau, Shanghai is expected to have an additional five straight high-temperature days starting Thursday, with the highest temperature predicted to soar to at least 35 C.

Thus far this summer, there have been 16 dog days in the city. If the forecasts are accurate, Shanghai will have a total of at least 20 high-temperature days this year.

Meanwhile in the US, the annual average summer day is only around 15.
