Torrential rains and flooding in North China’s Hebei Province have left 114 people dead and 111 others missing as of 6 pm on Saturday. Among them, 25 deaths occurred in the city of Xingtai, where 13 are still missing.
In response to skepticism of inaccurate death toll reports and government ineptitude in handling the crisis, Xingtai mayor Dong Xiaoyu issued an apology at a press conference late Saturday night for the city’s inadequate emergency response to the storms.
