China is to hold a memorial to mark the 80th anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre in Nanjing, East China’s Jiangsu Province on Dec 13. The Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders has been closed for renovation since November 20 and will be reopened on Dec 14.

On Dec. 13, 1937, Nanjing fell to the Japanese invaders who went on a more than month-long slaughter of civilians. About 300,000 Chinese were killed, and 20,000 women raped, Xinhua reported.

In February 2014, China's top legislature designated December 13 as a national memorial day for the victims of the Nanjing Massacre.
