Einstein letter on physics, affectionate note sold in Jerusalem

A handwritten letter by famed physicist Albert Einstein mentioning the Theory of Relativity sold for $103,700 at a Jerusalem auction on Tuesday. Written in 1928, the letter is addressed to Einstein’s colleague Herman Muntz and mentions ideas for his "Third Stage of the Theory of Relativity” The letter also enclosed a photo of Einstein smoking a pipe. Also sold at the auction was a note Einstein wrote to a young woman in Florence. "To the scientific researcher, at whose feet I lay and sat for two full days, as a friendly souvenir,” reads the note, which fetched for $6,100. The phrase "to lie at somebody's feet" is an affectionate expression in German. Photos: VCG
