The kimono shops in Kurume, Fukuoka Prefecture, began organizing the “Kimono Project” four years ago, which aimed to produce kimonos representing the different cultures of 196 countries as both a welcome to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and a message that the world is united. The project soon expanded nationwide and 100 kimonos have been completed through collaborative efforts. (Photos: VCG)
