Artist Jianguo Xiongdi sucked pollution from the air of Beijing for 100 days, and used the collected deadly particulate matter to make a “smog brick.” The Shenzhen-based artist’s project started on July 24, when he was photographed with a modified vacuum cleaner collecting the particles in a different iconic part of the city each day. He used the dust to make the brick in a factory on Monday, and plans to use it to help make a new building. In 2013, while visiting Beijing, he was shocked by the heavy smog, and came up with the idea for his project to show that smog affects human life, and everyone has a duty to protect our environment.
