Zhou Keqiang and Hsu Hsuan Ping from Santic Kosmo Team and Fancy Chu from Magene-ZhaoMeng Team bagged the first, second and third places respectively in the five-day 13th China Xinjiang Tour de Sayram Lake Road Cycling Race, which ended on Thursday in Bortala Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. In the team rankings, Santic Kosmo grabbed top spot, defeating the other 29 participating teams, with Magene-ZhaoMeng and Novatec Merior coming in second and third. Champion Zhou Keqiang is from Jiangxi Province and Fancy Chu and Hsu Hsuan Ping hail from Taiwan island. The positives of cycling–environmental protection and conservation as well as awareness of health–were the themes of this year's event. With 163 contestants and 30 teams from all over China, the organizers hoped to attract more and more tourists from home and abroad to this mysterious Silk Road region, using the annual cycling race as a branding platform. Thirteen teams from Xinjiang and 17 teams from other provinces in China participated in the race. A sports club from Korla in Xinjiang and a local team from Wenquan also took part. The prize money for cyclists this year has been increased to 400,000 yuan ($58157) from 300,000 yuan in 2018. The 468-kilometer event is divided into five segments, spread across Bole and Alashankou cities, Jinghe and Wenquan counties and Sayram Lake. These are the five administrative locations in Bortala, which is Xinjiang's smallest prefecture bordering Kazakhstan.
