FC Bayern Munich legend Klaus Augenthaler attended the on-going national summer camp for Chinese junior high school students, co-organized by Bayern Munich. About 1,000 soccer players, coaches and referees from China’s 31 provincial regions are participating in the camp, which kicked off on Monday and is scheduled until August 20. The soccer camp is hosted by the national campus soccer officer under the Ministry of Education (MOE) in China. It will offer various activities including matches, patriotic education, selection of talent, training for coaches and cultural exchange, according to the MOE website. China has made striking progress in the promotion of campus soccer through enhanced training, increased school-level matches and upgraded facilities, said Wang Dengfeng, a senior official with the MOE, at a press conference on July 23. The country aims to have 50,000 schools specializing in youth soccer by the end of 2025 and to create 29,000 soccer fields by 2020, according to Wang. (Photos: Yang Hui/GT)
