A group of university students in Hong Kong organized a gathering on the morning of September 28, 2019, at Golden Bauhinia Square, singing the Chinese national anthem and waving Chinese national flags to celebrate the upcoming 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Over 30 local residents joined the group, and said they had hoped to celebrate the anniversary despite ongoing social unrest.
