Historic chances opening up for China and US

President Hu Jintao will leave for Washington for a state visit, which is the Chinese president's first trip to a foreign country this year, and the second time the US and Chinese presidents have met in the last two years.
China's peaceful development is essential for both countries to grow and prosper, and for the US and China to face challenges hand-in-hand. The more widely and deeply they cooperate on bilateral and global issues, the more development opportunities they would create.
There are a few countries that would like to rely on the US to balance China. Within the US, opinions shift between increasing security through containing China or reaping more benefit through China's growth, which meanwhile needs to follow the game rules set by the US. Google issue, Taiwan question and the Chinese yuan issue are obstacles in the progress of Sino-US relationship.
Disagreements are to be expected, given how different China and the US are from each other. But they should not be allowed to hamper the bilateral relationship from moving ahead.
Today, the Sino-US relationship is facing a historical opportunity. Mutual respect and acceptance of difference, plus strengthening cooperation, will bring the bilateral relations to a new height.
