China must stand on the frontline of climate battlefield

Companies in traditional sectors can also promote and participate in green development so long as they reduce emissions and increase energy efficiency. If each of us saves water and electricity and drives less, we all promote green development.

If we in China fail to reduce emissions and improve environmental protection, we will suffer as a consequence.

This failure will also cast a humiliating shadow over our other achievements and damage our own image both at home and in the world.

But if each of us in China promotes green development, we will not only benefit, but help improve our worldwide image as well.

Several decades ago, when faced with the specter of population growth running out of control, China demonstrated vision and courage and introduced family planning throughout the country.

In dealing with climate change, China needs similar vision and courage to promote green development.

It should promote green development as a life-or-death vital challenge with direct bearing on the survival and prosperity of China as a country and the Chinese people as a nation. Therefore, green development is a duty for us all and requires participation by all of us and will benefit each of us. This will be our great contribution to mankind.
