Love knows no boundaries

Cross-cultural relationships are not just a lot of fun. They also make sense. In today's world of increasing interconnectedness, they are sources of strength and understanding.

I'm not an anthropologist, but I would be willing to bet that human societies dating back to prehistory have all had at least one thing in common: a belief in love. Love is more than an emotion; it is an instinct. That's why it's so powerful – and so easy.

Cross-cultural relationships, at their heart, are no more complicated than "mono cultural" relationships. In fact, I believe there are natural reasons why cross-cultural relationships are more and more popular.

The 21st century globalization is making the possibilities for love a lot more exciting. China is in many ways at the center of this trend. Every year, hundreds of thousands of Chinese people go abroad to study, work and live. Meanwhile, more and more folks from other countries and regions are making their homes in China's major cities.

Dating someone from another country is a great way to understand that country's people and culture. It also gives the relationship strength, because you both may have different ways of analyzing problems and overcoming challenges. The opportunities for complimenting one another are endless.

Ultimately, every relationship relies on love and mutual respect. Cross-cultural relationships require you to learn how people from another country demonstrate love and respect for one another.

This is the biggest challenge, but it comes with the greatest reward.
