In God we trust

Kan himself, in the eyes of the public and the press, remains stoic and unfazed, despite imminently facing his first major political hurdle, one that will ultimately define him and his party as a successful political vehicle, with the potential to drive Japan into a new era of prosperity, or, conversely, a disbanded group of greenhorns caught in the crosshairs of opposition parties' sights.

When asked by the press whether or not he would take political responsibility if the DPJ election targets were not met, he said he would carry through and hold onto the maxim that one must always do one's best and God will take care of the rest.

Indeed, help from a higher power may well be required if the DPJ are to firstly succeed on Sunday and, thereafter, hold true to their word and save the nation from buckling under the crippling weight of carrying the heaviest national debt in the industrialized world, as Japan's Asian neighbors dust themselves off from the global economic turndown and stake their claims as the region's economic torchbearers.
