Manage world's rising expectations

It may be hard to find a single response to all of these expectations. But effective communication can be an important tool in managing the situation, as China learned to do in the previous and present Davos forums. Despite the absence of some top Western leaders, Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang is leading a large delegation to the forum.

On China's journey toward making a mark on the global stage, it should be neither swayed by exaggerated external views, nor made to underestimate its true potential.

Being pushed to either extreme could be damaging.

Letting the world hear our voice, as Mao exhorted, can be effective in managing diverse expectations.
