The situation is concerning: While once members of this generation shone with the glamorous halo of exotic lands and strange skills, now the aura around them seems to be disappearing. Not only are the returned students having a difficult time finding jobs in China, but news about Chinese students finding it hard adjusting to the society they are about to enter is getting more frequent.
The current home and school education has to change to prepare this generation better for the responsibilities they will have to take.
Without basic survival skills, they won't be able to adapt to the new environment, which is one of change, let alone shoulder the future of the country.
In the past when people born in the 1980s were asked about their life-long goals, the most common answers centered around careers as scientists, writers, and doctors. It may be disappointing to see millions of graduates struggling to find jobs today, with some unwilling to take positions they deem too low. But maybe it is time for them to swallow their pride.
