The prisons and detention centers also reacted promptly after the Monday earthquake, evacuating their inmates or detainees to “safe places,” said a local police officer who declined to give his name.
Some Chinese businesses claimed to have suffered a brief break as the North Koreans did not allow Chinese trucks carrying Korean seafood to come back until Wednesday.
“We didn’t get fresh crabs or fish from the importers for two days,” Liu, general manager of Sungbo International Business Hotel.
He said his business friends did express their concern with the nuclear test not far away, “They are talking about possible pollution to underground water.”
