S Korea, US officials say to strengthen UN sanctions against DPRK

Top diplomats and defense officials from South Korea and the United States on Wednesday warned of " serious consequences" in case of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)'s further provocations.
They made the remarks as reaffirming their robust military alliance in the face of heightened tension on the Korean peninsula.
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, speaking to reporters in a press conference following the so-called "two plus two" security talks, said the United States will introduce "country-specific" sanctions against proliferation-related activities of the DPRK, while reaffirming strong support for South Korea in deterring threats from Pyongyang.
She said that the UN Security Council Resolutions 1718 and 1874 will be more strictly imposed on Pyongyang, including possible additional state and treasury designation of entities and individuals engaged in illicit activities and subjecting them to asset freeze.
The talks involved US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Defense Secretary Robert Gates and their South Korean counterparts, the first of its kind held between Seoul and Washington.
